Vapor Shots

Hey connoisseurs! Here’s a new way to use your vaporizer to enjoy your botanical. Any stationary vaporizer with a whip attachment and a fan option can be used to infuse vapor into an ordinary drink, creating a new concoction delicately flavoured with your botanical.

We recommend using the Extreme Q, or the H-alizer for this experiment. The Extreme Q is a great quality stationary unit that provides the ability to use bags or whip, which will prove to be an advantage here as you can simply set it up for use with a whip, then turn on your fan. If you’ve read the H-alizer review, you know that it has the same advantage as it is able to be used with a whip or bags right out of the box, not to mention it produces some top notch vapor! This will let you cut to the chase and get right to the fun part.

The Method

The Method

Fill a glass with Grey Goose Vodka, or your preferred brand, and leave some space at the top because it will start bubbling up. Set up your unit as you normally would. Fill the heating chamber with your preferred botanical, and turn the temperature to the right level for your botanical. If you’re enjoying the Extreme Q experience, turn your fan speed to low. With the H-alizer, simply turn the fan on. Next, dip the end of the whip into your glass, and you’ll immediately see the vapor bubbling in it.

The Chemistry

The Chemistry

What’s happening is that alcohol is a great solvent so as the vapor flows through your drink, the volatile extracts in it that are soluble in alcohol are bonding with the alcohol in the glass instead of disappearing in to the air. The essential oils will change the character of the drink as well as give it the properties and flavours of your botanical. This is made possible mostly due to the convection heating of your botanical which is the most efficient way to extract your vapor. This means you will get much more of the flavour compounds out of your botanical and into your drink than any other method.

The Results

On low speed, you should let your vaporizer bubble into your drink for about four minutes. When it’s done, turn your unit off and remove the whip from your glass. The scents of your botanical will be pretty clear in the air around you. You’ll end up with a perfectly flavoured drink with all the properties of your favourite botanical! If you’re worried that the vapor being pumped through your liquid is going to waste, simply cover the top of the glass with plastic wrap and punch 2 holes in it. Put your whip through one hole, and either suck the vapor from the other hole as it comes out, or put a spare tube into the other hole, leaving enough room between the bottom of the tube and top of the liquid to keep from submerging the tube. Now you can enjoy vapor that’s been percolated through alcohol before you enjoy your botanical-infused drink!
A word of caution to all of you who try this, you do so at your own risk! Make sure you act responsibly and abide by the laws in your area. Safety should be the highest priority, so take it slow and take the necessary precautions.
