XVape Cricket Wax Pen Review – Chirp Chirp

How it Works

You really can’t get a more basic wax pen than the Cricket. This has a battery, a heating chamber, a mouthpiece, and a single button. You click the button five times to toggle the power, and you click and hold it when you want to take a draw.

Loading the chamber is as simple as removing the mouthpiece, which is held in place with a magnetic connection. The chamber and battery charger both screw onto the battery using a 510 connection.

Temperature Flexibility

The Cricket doesn’t have any temperature flexibility at all. When you press the button to take a draw, it quickly heats to 932F and continues to heat the longer you draw. The temperature can exceed 1100F before you are done.

I consider this to be the biggest downside of this vape. These temperatures are just too high for enjoyable vapor. The end result is hot and harsh when you compare it to other vapes like the Evolve Plus, and there is nothing you can do to improve it.

Vapor Quality

The vapor quality is average at best. Like I said before, the temperature levels are just too high to deliver enjoyable vapor. The high temperatures cause two main problems.

The first is that molecules delivering the flavor are literally destroyed at those temperatures. The second is that the vapor is going to be hotter when you inhale it, which will be more irritating to your throat and lungs especially without any sort of water filtration similar to what the XMAX Qomo offers. Users usually tend to prefer devices like the Utillian 5 that has 4 voltage settings producing thick clouds yet easier to inhale at higher temperatures.

Manufacturing Quality

This is a cheap wax pen. The manufacturing quality reflects that. I’m not sure what else there is too say.

The thing only costs $25, after all. If you are buying something this cheap, you are going to have to accept lower quality machining, design, and materials.

With the Cricket, the biggest areas that you are sacrificing by spending less are battery life, temperature flexibility, and vapor quality. Users who are looking for wax pen that has higher quality material usually tend to prefer devices like the Kandypens Elite.

Battery Life

The battery in this is only rated at 350mAh. You can’t get much smaller than this. I’d say the average capacity for most wax pens such as Linx Hypnos Zero is 600-750mAh, so around double what this offers that too at an affordable price. This translates to a pen that is only capable of delivering a few uses on a single charge. The plus side is that it can charge in an hour or less.

XVape also warns that leaving this to sit can easily ruin the battery forever. If it ever discharges to 2% or less, it may never accept a charge again.

Portability

The portability of this is excellent as far as the size goes. It’s actually about as tiny as you can get a wax pen to be and very easy to carry in your pocket something similar to the Kandypens Gravity.

This is directly related to battery size, because the battery is what takes up most of the room in a pen vape. The downside to this is that battery life also affects portability. You’ll be able to take this anywhere with you, but you won’t be able to use it much before needing to stop and charge it.

Ease of Use

This is incredibly easy to use. Like I said before, this is about as basic of a setup as you can get. All you have to do is turn it on and press the button while taking a draw.

Loading the chamber is as simple as pulling the magnetically connected mouthpiece off the top. Both beginners and experienced vapers could use this and get the exact same results. Some users looking something simpler than this usually tend to lean towards Ares Honey Straw, where you do not even have to load the wax.

Discreetness

The size of the Cricket makes it very easy to conceal in your hand. The problem I see with it is the lack of temperature control that is provided in almost all the wax pens like the Ember Wax Pen. Even though this is very tiny, it can deliver big clouds quickly thanks to the extremely high temperatures.

If you are trying to use this in public, I recommend using a small amount of material and taking very short draws to try to cut down on the amount of visible vapor.

Overall Experience

I’ll be honest, the XVape Cricket isn’t a very good wax pen.

The battery life is bad, it lacks any temperature control at all, and the vapor quality is below average.

With that being said, there are two things it has going for it. It’s extremely small, and the price is about as low as you can go while still getting something that works.

I personally recommend that you check out slightly more expensive options. Something like the Utillian 2 will get you get better performance, even with a price that is less than $100 and the vapor quality is insanely good.
